• HISTORY <br />1991 - Ad hoc advisory committee was appointed to develop <br />Comprehensive Park Plan and Development Guide <br />1993 - Committee formed to evaluate potential sites for <br />athletic complex. Factors such as location, size, shape, <br />orientation, topography, soils, and vehicular access were <br />analyzed when evaluating each parcel. Aerial photography was <br />also taken to assist in this evaluation <br />1994 - Concept plan for most desirable site created - Noren <br />property (Holly Drive and County Road J) <br />1998 - City Council authorized staff to begin negotiations to <br />acquire land for an athletic complex. Owners of Noren property <br />decided not to sell <br />1999 - Staff began discussions with property owner of <br />• second most desirable site located at southeast corner of Birch <br />Street and Centerville Road (Montain property) <br />Staff and Jeff Schonebauer, parks planning consultant, <br />analyzed potential site including wetland delineation and <br />created concept plan <br />Tentative agreement reached, contingent on City Council <br />approval, to acquire 62 acres of property for $850,000. <br />Subsequent discussions with adjoining property owner has <br />resulted in an additional 5 acres adjacent to Montain property <br />for $75,000. <br />
