August 26, 1999
Dear Rick
We received you letter in regards to the Quail Ridge Boardwalk. We would like to voice some
of our opinions and concerns involving this matter. Our primary concern is with the safety of the
bridge. We have two young children who believe this boardwalk to be an ideal place to explore
and hunt for frogs and toads. Obviously they have be warned against going on the bridge, but
kids will be kids and I have found mine and other neighborhood children on and around the
barricade and boardwalk. We truly believe there is no other option but to remove this "accident
waiting to happen" before it is too late. Should the city decide in the future that a boardwalk is
needed, then and only then should a safe and up to code boardwalk be placed. I fmd it ironic that
a city that strictly enforces codes on decks and patios is so unconcerned with the potential hazard
of a broken down old bridge, over a swamp in a neighborhood with many curious children
running around.
You had mentioned an option to replace the entire boardwalk. We believe this to be a waste of
city funds at this time because, as you mentioned, the boardwalk does not serve a useful purpose.
Unfortunately the bridge has been very useful to the criminals that have been plaguing our
development for the last few years. This boardwalk is an easy get away for these criminals, as it
emerges into a wooded area.
Lastly, the barricade that the city put in our development is an eye sore and an insult to our
intelligence. Does the City of Lino Lakes truly think we are ignorant enough to believe that this
barricade would be sufficient to keep our children safe. Not only does it further entice the kids;
it also diminishes the beauty and value of our homes. I believe that we are paying enough taxes
(which we are willing to pay; for the luxury of living in this beautiful development) that we
should receive a little more consideration from our city officials. We would very much like to
see the barricade and boardwalk removed as soon as possible this fall.
We thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Curtis and Sandy Johnson
1161 Ruffed Grouse Ct.
Lino lakes, MN, 55014
•
