• Once permission to access is granted, parcels will be visited for field verification to
level four or higher of the land cover classification system.
Timeline: July 2000 through February 2001
Task 5. Ecological/botanical field sessions for agency staff and tech panel members
• If/when additional rare species populations and/or rare communities are encountered,
the natural resource consultant will hold two field sessions for local agency staff.
• Staff will be instructed on the key characteristics of these rare natural communities and
how to identify rare Sand Plain species in the field at various points in their phenology.
• The natural resource consultant is offering these informational field sessions as an in-
kind donation to the overall project (2 field sessions assumed, 16 hours total plus
informational materials)
Timeline: June through August 2000 (flexible)
Task 6. Finalize GIS land cover data
• Once land cover has been classified on 1/2 section aerial photographs (hard -copy
printouts), the land cover polygons will be transferred into the GIS using on- screen
digitizing over 1997 Metropolitan Council black and white digital ortho photoquads
(DOQ's).
• As data is checked in the field, edits and refinements will be transferred from field
notes to the digital layers. Data quality assurance /quality control methods will be
implemented throughout the digitization and field checking process to ensure data
quality.
Timeline: February through May 2001
Task 7. Produce final GIS layers and `hard -copy' maps. Public presentations, reports, and
make data available for collaborators, local municipalities, and other stakeholders
• One interim progress report will be submitted to Metro Greenways and project
collaborators by the natural resource consultant during December 2000.
• A final summary report will be submitted by the natural resource consultant on behalf
of the lead organization to the Metro Greenways Grant Program and project
collaborators in June 2001. R•=
• Finalized ArcView GIS data layers will be burned to CDROM disks for distribution to
project collaborators, local government agencies, and other stakeholders. The data may
be provided to the Land Management Information Center (LMIC) for distribution
through their GIS data clearinghouse.
• The natural resource consultant will offer GIS assistance to project collaborators on
how to begin to use the land cover classification data layer(s) for watershed planning
and analysis, greenway planning and design and other land planning applications.
• The natural resource consultant will assist project collaborators to acquire existing land
cover data for adjacent areas in the County, and merge these data with land cover
information acquired through the proposed project.
Timeline: December 2000 through June 2001
Rice Creek Corridor Expansion Greenway Planning Grant
Anoka Conservation District and Collaborating Agencies
Page 4 of 11
January 28, 2000
