I hope to have this project wrapped up by the Monday of next
week.
It may take me until Wednesday, November 7th to be entirely done.
I sincerely regret not having these data to you sooner. The Rice Creek
landscape is quite complex as a result of the complex soils and
hydrology of
this part of the Sand Plain, and there are extensive areas of natural
nd
emi- natral land cover types to break apart, classify, DIGITIZE and
code.
In addition,-I have found several new records of Endangered, Threatened,
and
Specieal Concern plant popultions. As an illustration of this
complexity
let me offer the following figures:
Rice Creek Landscape:
Land Cover Area: 38,643 Acres
Land Cover Polygons: 8,004
Average Area per Polygon: 209,088 ft sq. (4.8 acres)
Average Polygon Perimeter: 3,837 ft.
Average Polygon Area /Average Polygon Perimeter: 54.5
Hennepin County Suburban /AgriculturalLandscacpe(Hassan Township):
Land Cover Area: 7,737 Acres
Land Cover Polygons: 1,042
Average Area per Polygon: 322,344 ft sq. (7.4 acres)
Average Polygon Perimeter: 3,180 feet
Average Polygon Area /Average Polygon Perimeter: 101.4
I am not sure how clearly these numbers illustrate the complexity of the
Rice Creek landscape to you. Essentially the final calculation for each
landscape illustrates that I have found that with regard to land cover,
the
Rice Creek landscape is almost two times (101.4/54.5) as spatially
.omplex
s many of the 'typical' landscapes I have classified in the Metro area
such as Hassan Township in Hennepin County, agircultural landscapes on
glacial till in Dakota County, and river bluff and river bottom
1
