• <br />• <br />ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING SEPTEMBER 26, 2001 <br />Grundhofer made a motion to pass on a recommendation to the City Council to <br />participate in the Trade a Tree program. Trehus seconded the motion. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />D. Project NEMO — Asleson expressed his desire to the Board to bring in the technical <br />expertise of NEMO into the City as a pilot project. <br />Trehus inquired about the factors which would increase the chances of this becoming a <br />reality. Asleson responded that it should be brought up to the City Council. <br />O'Connell asked about the costs involved. Asleson answered that if the City participated <br />as a pilot project it would be minimal. He stated that they simplified issues, and used <br />G.I.S. as a tool and even NASA remote sensing. He also indicated that representatives <br />from Rice Creek Watershed District were represented. <br />Chair Kukonen questioned if there was an opportunity to participate. Asleson stated <br />anyone who had an interest was welcome. <br />E. Quarterly Stipend — The Board discussed that the st was overdue. Asleson noted <br />that he would check on it. <br />PROGRAM /PROJECT UPDATES <br />A. Solid Waste/Recycling Updates — Asleso e . Forestry — Asleson stated that 8 trees were slated for removal due to oak wilt, but were <br />still standing because the machine broke down this past summer. The City was <br />scheduled to have a plough in October to November, but if the ground freezes up before <br />then, it would not be used. The City plans to plant 200 trees still this fall, with more next <br />spring. Staff could not keep up with the plantings so it was contracted out. The trees <br />used were Minnesota Grown. There was a discussion of the boulevard trees. <br />C. Other Environmental Project Updates — Asleson noted that there were prairie areas <br />where the Fire Department and the City were planning to burn at the end of next month. <br />There were three areas where prairie seeding would occur this fall. <br />D. Molin Concrete Update — Grochala indicated that the recommendation had passed, and <br />there was a meeting with the residents on the topic. The developers had submitted a <br />landscaping plan to the City. They were given their TWAFA, or have been approved but <br />were based on the submission of technical details to be worked out with staff. They were <br />8 <br />
