•
•
Agenda Item 6A
Environmental Board Meeting Date: February 26, 2003
Topic: Anoka County Parks /Presentation /County Parks Open Space Acquisition
Background: Anoka County Parks is seeking to acquire property buffering Rice
Creek. This property is located along the Creek from I35W to Howard Lake.
Please see Attachment 1. Anoka County Parks will be at the meeting to present
their acquisition project.
Analysis: This area is extremely important to achieving a Metropolitan
Greenway connection North of the Rice Creek Regional Chain of Lakes Park.
The controlled use of areas adjacent to Rice Creek will be very beneficial to the
water quality of Lino Lakes lake- water. At least one unique -plant species is
present in the acquisition site proposal. Walter's barnyard grass is present about
3600 feet north along the creek. There are many more sites in the proposed
areas that still should be investigated for rare species. The area contains
isolated soils and hydrologic indicators that would support rare plants. I have
attached a model Resolution that might be used to support the greenway efforts
of Anoka County. If agreeable, this ordinance would be forwarded on to the Lino
Lakes City Council for adoption.
Options:
1. Support The County Proposal
2. Do not support
Recommendation:
Option one, and pass a resolution of support on to the City Council.
Environmental Board Comments:
Attachments:
1. Anoka County Maps
• 2. Model Resolution
