Bourassa, P.E. .
Date: June 12, 2003
Re: Lino Lakes Sportatorium
At the Council Work Session I heard a few comments related to the light levels in the area
around the dome. In an effort to address these concerns, I have completed some research
regarding this issue.
Basically, the dome structure is translucent and will have surface brightness but will not emit
light. The best example of what the dome lighting will really be like that was provided to me by
the lighting professional is as follows:
At night, if you are standing in your back yard and the lights are on inside the house, light will be
emitted from the window and will provide light around the yard. However, if the shades are
pulled down on the window, you can tell that the lights are on inside the house (surface
brightness) but light will not be emitted around the yard area (translucent).
Although I was not able to obtain any lighting studies for the exact dome when it was erected in
St. Paul, I did locate a lighting study regarding a similar structure in Colorado (see attached
study).
If you have any additional questions or comments related to the dome lighting, I would be happy
to have the dome lighting professional come to the meeting with the Environmental Board.
Please contact me at 651- 338 -7373 if you need additional information related to this or any other
Sportatorium issue.
RECEIVED
31.11\1 13 2003
GIV OF 1010 LAKES
