March 8, 2000
Crested Butte Country Club
Mr. Rick Divine
P.O. Box 879
Crested Butte, CO 81224
Dear Mr. Devine:
YEADON®
Fabric Domes Inc.
2845 North Hamline Ave., Suite 100
St. Paul, MN 55113
Toll Free: 800 -4- YEADON
Telephone: 651 - 633 -7400
Fax: 651 - 633 -2019
RECEIVED
JUN 1 3 2003
CITY OF LINO LAKES
Thank you for your call concerning information about the light levels within a dome and
the light level immediately adjacent to the dome.
As per our discussion, Yeadon recently had the light levels outside of 3 different domes
tested. In all 3 cases, the light level inside the dome was measured and the light level
outside the dome at varying distances was measured.
The light levels inside the 3 domes varied from 40fc (foot candles) to 65fc.
The light levels taken outside were done with the meter pointing directly at the dome.
This accurately measures any light that may escape from the dome. The results were as
follows:
Dome 1 was 40fc. inside. Outside within 5' of the dome the light level was just less than
' /Zfc. At 10' the light level dropped to about' /afc.
Dome 2 was 45fc. inside and the results were the same as dome 1
Dome 3 was 65fc. inside. The light level outside at 5' from the dome was 'A& and just
over 'Mc. at 10'.
Your dome will be approximately 50 to 65fc. inside so you will closely match Dome 3.
To get an example of how low this light level outside the dome is, you should know that
reflective moonlight is about 'Afc. Parking lot and street lights are between 5 and 15fc. A
cloudy foggy day is about 900fc. A sunny day is in the thousands.
To summarize, the dome will keep nearly 100% of the light inside and not allow any to
spill out on the surrounding areas. An example I like to use is if your neighbor's house
has the lights on inside and the shades open, light spills out of the window and lights up
the immediate area outside. If the neighbor pulls the shade down, you can still see the
lights are on in the house but it is not lighting up the area outside the window any more.
In Canada
Kerr Industrial Park, R.R. #3 Guelph.
