• Landscaping
A smaller version of the landscape design was not submitted at this time. The
plan shows no existing trees in the landscape. It is suggested that some of the
Red Pine and the two White Spruce be saved on the Lake Drive Side of the site,
and any of the Red Oaks if possible. The plan should retain as many trees as
possible (except Siberian Elm) on the Lakeside of the project. Additional
materials that are suited to transitional soils should be planted in order to meet
Zone screening needs. Aspen, Birch, Ash, Swamp White Oak, Red Osier
Dogwood, and tall native grasses and flowers would be desired in this area. A
number of White Spruce /Scotch Pine are proposed for the North and South
property lines. The Church is also proposing a 4 ft wooden fence along the
property lines. In order to meet screening needs of the city requirements, a 6 ft
fence would work better. If a 4 foot fence is the final product, than more trees in
the sight -lines of adjacent properties should be planted to achieve adequate
screening. Suggest changing Scotch Pine to Red Pine. Parking lot islands have
flowering crab proposed for the islands, and around the SE and SW sides of the
building. Additional Autumn Blaze Maples are shown on the front side.
There is no reference ground story cover on the plan. Again, Native grass and
flowers should be designed around surface -water management areas and sod
areas defined with irrigation.
The plan should add materials for some foundation plantings. Flower gardens
would be desirable.
Parking
Parking should be reduced to the minimum needed for this type of facility.
Pervious parking should be incorporated into the design for at least overflow
areas.
Options:
1. Approve with staff and Environmental Board recommendations
2. Refer back for further review
Recommendation:
Option 1
Attachments:
1. General Location Map.
2. MLCCS
• 3. Soils
4. Lighting Plan
