POLICY PLAN <br />NATURAL ENVIRONMENT <br />The natural environment resources are of major importance within Lino Lakes. Their <br />proper preservation and utilization as valuable community amenities, or conversely, as <br />areas in which natural barriers present development constraints, become the focus for <br />which guidance by the following goals and policies are determined. These goal and <br />policy statements are supplemented by the Brauer and Associates Handbook for <br />Environmental Planning and Conservation Development. <br />Goals <br />1. Protect the environmental quality of Lino Lakes while accommodating moderate <br />growth. <br />2. Preserve the open character of Lino Lakes through the preservation of natural <br />open space and the establishment of greenway corridors. <br />3. Promote biodiversity through the use of native plant materials and other materials <br />where appropriate. <br />4. Utilize the Chain of Lakes Regional Park as an aesthetic and recreational <br />community amenity while preserving the park's biosystems. <br />5. Integrate new development with the City's natural environment in a compatible <br />manner. <br />6. Maintain and when feasible, improve the City's water resources. <br />7. Protect and maintain natural wetlands, ponding areas and drainageways in an <br />effort to establish a community -wide storm drainage system. <br />In planning development consider possible effects on the natural plant and <br />animal populations, particularly species of special concern. <br />Policies <br />General <br />1. Conduct an environmental inventory and prepare an ecological restoration and <br />management plan of the City. Quantify and rank the environmental resources of <br />Lino Lakes.
