The 2030 Comprehensive Plan Advisory Panel spent the evening discussing and wrestling with the biggest issues facing the city currently. To begin the meeting Ciara Schlichting, of the planning consulting firm Bonestroo, gave an introductory presentation, Ciara Schlichting described what a comprehensive plan is, and why it is important to plan for the future. Also included in the presentation was information about the Advisory Panel and how it was selected. A SWOT exercise was then conducted. SWOT stands for Strengths - Weaknesses - Opportunities - Threats. Citizens were directed to think about Lino Lake's strengths and weaknesses, then to think about what opportunities and threats the city faces in the future. Getting thoughts out into the open helps citizens see what kind of city they have today and where they would like it to go over the next 20 years. The groups spent about 40 minutes discussing all of these issues with each other. After the discussion period, Ciara Schlichting moderated a group discussion where each group took turns sharing their thoughts from the SWOT exercise. Every group contribution to the SWOT exercise was written down and hung up on the wall. The participants were invited to vote on their top three issues in each category. The sidebar to the left shows the issues that received the most votes from the people at the forum. These issues will be utilized to shape the city's goals and polices, which is the next step of the 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
