To
begin the meeting Ciara Schlichting, of the planning consulting
firm Bonestroo, reported back the results of the SWOT exercise
that was conducted on March 21st. This exercise let advisory
panel members state what they thought the strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and threats were in Lino Lakes.
After the results had been reported back a discussion was
held that lasted almost two hours where a wide range of
topics were discussed. The Advisory Panel discussed how
future opportunities connect and /or conflict with one another
job creation and housing, transportation and economic
development, transportation and housing, and conservation
development and housing. Some of the topics included:
housing conditions, the Metropolitan Council's definition of
affordable housing, redevelopment opportunities, conservation
development, job growth, and business retention and
expansion. This discussion afforded the Advisory Panel a chance
to express their opinions and to hear different view points on
the various topics that are important to the City's future. Also
the Advisory Panel was able to hear what city staff is currently
doing to address many of these issues already, while also
learning what limitations the City faces when trying to solve
some of the more complex subjects.
This discussion is feeding the creation of goals and strategies
for the 2030 Comprehensive Plan.
