•
•
•
ENVIRONMENTAL BOARD MEETING MARCH 28, 2007
Arbor Day
Mr. Asleson reminded the board that Arbor Day is on April 27t • A presentation
will be held again at Lino Lakes Elementary. Mr. Asleson noted that a memorial
tree will be planted in honor of a teacher who passed away. There will also be an
educational session on pruning trees.
Earth Day
Mr. Asleson noted that Earth Day is on April 21. He stated that the city met the
requirements for Tree City USA for the 18th year. He stated that Wargo Nature
Center is working on vendors and displays for this year's Earth Day celebration.
He noted that they are short on money this year as the Friends of the Park was
dissolved, and they were the funding tool for this event. He noted that Lisa
Hogstad is scheduling clean up groups at the city, and that 15 groups have already
signed up. Mr. Asleson said that sometimes garbage haulers will assist with bag
pickup, otherwise he will coordinate pickup through city staff. He asked board
members about the interest in starting a garden club. Ms. DeHaven volunteered to
take over this initiative and encourage community gardens.
Ms. Bor noted that she did not see hooks for hanging flower pots on the light
posts in the Legacy development.
Ms. Andrzejewski noted that she has participants interested in display booths for
Earth Day. Mr. Asleson asked her to contact Wargo directly. Mr. Asleson noted
that Connie Grundhofer had stamps for kids, and that Environmental Board
members can talk to kids about environmental issues while at Wargo. Mr.
Asleson said that the city will provide popcorn. He stated that the next Earth Day
meeting is at Wargo on April 5 at 6:00 p.m. Ms. Bor agreed to contact Connie
Grundhofer about the stamps.
Ms. Brouillet asked if a garbage hauler such as Walters is willing to donate a bin
for recycle day, could the Environmental Board then use their bins to throw trash
in for the Blue Heron Days Parade? Mr. Asleson replied that whichever hauler
was willing to offer bins could be used.
Mr. Asleson informed the board that he submitted burn permits to the DNR for
Stoneybrook, Otter Lake Road, Clearwater Creek 3rd addition, Clearwater Creek
wetland area, south Reshanau Lake Estates, Elm Street mitigation pond,
Shenandoah Park entrance area, Highland Meadows and Century Farms. He
stated that all bums will depend on weather and if the DNR issues the permits.
Mr. Asleson stated that the fire department is informed of burns but that no
permits are required. He informed board members that the fire department should
be contacted for private burns.
5 DRAFT MINUTES
