2) A 50 bed maximum security facility for juveniles located in two buildings
(Sanford and Walker)
3) East Central Regional Juvenile Center - a 36 bed maximum security
facility - this building is attached via a secured walkway to the Juvenile
Center for shared use of the gymnasium
4) Adult Correctional Center - medium security facility, 60 beds existing -
60 proposed (most offenders in residence have been sentenced for less
than one year in this facility).
The Police Chief is familiar with this proposed project and has indicated no
objections to the construction. The proposed construction meets with the
requirements of the Zoning Ordinance, staff would, therefore, recommend
approval with the following conditions:
1. Proper building permits are obtained prior to construction.
2. Grading and drainage plans are approved by the City Engineer.
3. Building exterior blends with the existing structure.
4. Parking facilities are shared with the correctional facility to the south as
indicated by the applicant.
5. The expanded parking area is provided with bituminous surfacing and
concrete curb and gutter as approved by the City Engineer.
The Planning and Zoning Board recommended approval on a 5/0 vote (two
members were absent) with the conditions listed above.
OPTIONS:
1. Approve site plan review with conditions outlined above.
2. Return to staff for further consideration.
RECOMMENDATION:
Option 1
