Traffic Impacts
Once the additional traffic generated by the proposed Miller's South Glen and the potential area
development was distributed to the adjacent roadway system, an evaluation of the traffic impacts was
completed. The following represents a summary of worst -case scenarios in terms of additional
traffic on 62nd Street and Ware Road, first considering only Miller's South Glen, and then
considering both Miller's South Glen and potential area development.
Miller's South Glen
The roadway scenario which would result in the greatest increase in traffic on 62nd Street and Ware
Road as a result of the Miller's South Glen development is the existing roadway system. Either
extension of West Shadow Lake Drive would decrease volumes on 62nd Street and Ware Road.
62nd Street at Ware Road
62nd Street is stop controlled at its intersection with Ware Road. This location is potentially the
most affected location due to the additional southbound left turns approaching the site onto 62nd
Street, as well as westbound left turns leaving the site onto Ware Road. In the a.m. peak period,
these movements are estimated at 3 vehicles and 19 vehicles, respectively. In the p.m. peak period,
which has the highest conflicting traffic volumes, these movements are estimated at 13 vehicles and
10 vehicles, respectively. This represents approximately one south -to- eastbound left turn per
4.5 minutes, and approximately one west -to- southbound left turn every 6 minutes. The remaining
movements affected by the proposed project -- westbound and northbound right turns -- have low
conflicting volumes and represent an additional volume of one vehicle every 8.5 minutes westbound
and one vehicle every 3 minutes 20 seconds northbound during the p.m. peak hour. The existing
intersection geometrics and traffic control can accommodate these added volumes.
Ware Road at Birch Street
Ware Road is stop controlled at its intersection with Birch Street. The proposed development will
generate approximately 5 left turns onto Birch Street and 4 left turns onto Ware Road. This
represents approximately one north -to- westbound left turn per 12 minutes and approximately one
west - to-southbound left turn every 15 minutes. The remaining movements affected by the proposed
project -- northbound and eastbound right turns -- have low conflicting volumes and represent an
additional volume of approximately one vehicle every 20 minutes northbound and approximately
one vehicle every 6.5 minutes in the eastbound direction. The existing intersection geometrics and
traffic control can accommodate these added volumes.
Ware Road at Ash Street (County Road J)
Ware Road is stop controlled at its intersection with Ash Street. The proposed development will
generate approximately 5 left turns onto Ash Street and 9 left turns onto Ware Road. These volumes
represent a frequency of approximately one south -to- eastbound left turn per 12 minutes and
approximately one east -to- northbound left turn every 6.5 minutes. The remaining movements
affected by the proposed project -- southbound and westbound right turns -- have low conflicting
volumes and represent an additional volume of approximately one vehicle per 12 minutes
Miller's South Glen A- LINOL9709.00
Lino Lakes, Minnesota Page 3
