STAFF ORIGINATOR:
DATE:
TOPIC:
VOTE REQUIRED:
AGENDA ITEM 3A
Brian Wessel
4/26/99
Consideration of Resolution No. 99 -31 adding land to
the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes Regional Park
Reserve
Simple majority
BACKGROUND:
Anoka County would like to purchase 133.2 acres of wetland that has been
declared surplus land by the St. Paul Water Utility. Most of this land is already
within the official master plan boundaries of the park reserve, with 11 acres
directly adjacent to the park reserve.
As part of a March 26, 1974 Anoka County resolution that approved the
acquisition of land for the regional park, it was noted that "The Board of County
Commissioners will support the representatives of the City of Lino Lakes on the
position that...no further park or open space commitment should be required by
the City of Lino Lakes." Since this land is not developable, it is reasonable to
allow an exception to this agreement. This will help ensure the wetland areas,
which provide diverse natural habitat and an ecological buffer to the heron
rookery, will be under the jurisdiction of the county park reserve and remain
protected.
OPTIONS:
1. Adopt Resolution No. 99 -31 adding land to the Rice Creek Chain of Lakes
Regional Park Reserve.
2 Return to staff for further consideration.
RECOMMENDATION:
Option 1
