10. Maintenance of machinery is required on a regular basis per manufacturer's <br />recommendations. <br />TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT <br />General Rules <br />' 1. Tools used by employees must conform to all applicable safety standards. <br />2. Tools and equipment shall be used only for jobs they are designed for. <br />3. Before using any tool or piece of equipment, conduct a visual inspection to determine its <br />condition. <br />4. Faulty tools shall not be used and shall be reported to supervisor. <br />5. When power operated tools are designed to accommodate guards; they shall only be used <br />with such guards in place. <br />' 6. Belts, gears, shafts, pulleys, sprockets, spindles, drums, fly wheels, chains or other <br />reciprocating, rotating or moving parts of equipment shall be guarded if such parts are <br />exposed shall meet the requirements as set forth in the most current ANSI/OSHA <br />requirements. OSHA 1910 Code. <br />7. Employees shall not alter or remove machine guards. <br />' 8. If an employee notes a machine guard, which is faulty, loose, or otherwise ineffective and <br />dangerous, the employee shall not use such machinery and report it immediately to the <br />supervisor. <br />9. Any equipment found to be faulty shall be reported to the supervisor, tagged as such, locked <br />out and repaired before used. <br />' 10. Any reported faulty equipment, if not repairable, shall be discarded immediately by a <br />supervisor. <br />11. Repair work on any machinery or equipment shall begin only after the machine or equipment <br />has been made incapable of being started. During the duration of the repair work, the <br />machine or equipment must be tagged on or near the start mechanism with a "DO NOT <br />USE" tag. <br />Handtools <br />1. Employees shall not be permitted to use any unsafe tool. <br />2. Wrenches, including adjustable, pipe, end, and socket wrenches shall not be used when jaws <br />' are sprung to the point that slippage occurs. <br />3. Impact tools, such as drift pins, wedges, and chisels, shall be kept free of mushroomed heads. <br />' 4. The handles of tools shall be kept free of splinters or cracks and shall be kept tight in the tool. <br />Electric Power Operated Handtools <br />1. Electric power operated tools shall either be of the approved double - insulated type or <br />adequately grounded. <br />2. The use of electric cords for hoisting or lowering shall not be permitted. <br />
