STAFF ORIGINATOR: <br />DATE: <br />TOPIC: <br />AGENDA ITEM NO. 4C <br />Rick DeGardner, Public Services Director <br />June 14, 1999 <br />Consideration of Request to Approve Hiring of General <br />Maintenance- Streets Position <br />Vote Required: Simple Majority <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Applications for the General Maintenance - Streets position were accepted through June 1, 1999. <br />Thirty applications were submitted. <br />All applications were rated on criteria such as experience in public works or related field, the use <br />of heavy equipment and trucks with a plow and wing, along with asphalt and mechanical <br />experience. <br />The top eight candidates were given interviews on June 8. I am recommending that Mr. Robert <br />Boldt be considered for the General Maintenance - Streets position. Mr. Boldt has worked for the <br />Parks and Recreation Department since 1997. He is currently working part-time for the Parks <br />Department and has demonstrated his ability to take on responsibility and has a tremendous work <br />ethic. I believe that Mr. Boldt will be a good addition, and a good fit for the Streets Department. <br />The position provides for beginning salary of $13.76 per hour plus benefits. This position will <br />be eligible for membership in the 49ers Union. A physical examination and drug test will be <br />required prior to Mr. Boldt's start date. Mr. Boldt is available to begin work on June 29, 1999. <br />OPTIONS: <br />1. Approve Mr. Boldt as General Maintenance - Streets Employee <br />2.
