MEMORANDUM
DATE January 9, 1998
TO Mayor Sullivan, Council Members and City
Administrator
FROM Peter Kluegel, Building Official
REGARDING 1997 Year End Building Report
A total of 597 building permits were issued in 1997. Total construction valuation
was $32,666.843.00. This figure is $41,394,345.00 less than the 1996 total. There
were 197 new homes constructed in Lino Lakes in 1997. This includes 37 town
house units and 17 manufactured homes in the Baldwin Lake Park, This represents
an increase of eight (8) homes from the 189 total of 1996. The average price home
was $134,733.00. The City had 20 commercial, industrial and institutional building
permits totaling $5,932,707.00 in 1997. A list of the non - residential buildings is
attached for your review. There were 380 building permits issued for such items as
additions, remodeling, basement finishes, garages, fences, decks, porches and signs.
Total valuation was $2,482,058.00 for these permits. The electrical permits
generated a revenue of $9,190.00 for the City under our contract arrangement with
Ken Peterson.
The Building Department has been involved in implementation of the on -site septic
pumping and maintenance program. From an initial list of 2,900 homes that were
notified, under 200 remain to be pumped. Articles concerning this program have
been published in the City Newsletter.
Interest rates remain low which should create a favorable construction season in
1999.
