AGENDA ITEM 6B <br />STAFF ORIGINATOR: David Ahrens, Public Works Director /City Engineer <br />DATE: June 8, 1998 <br />TOPIC: Resolution No. 98 - 83, Accept Bids and Award Construction <br />Contract - West Shadow Lake Drive Culvert Replacement Project <br />INTRODUCTION: <br />Sealed bids were received and opened on Thursday, June 4, 1998, for the West <br />Shadow Lake Drive Culvert Replacement Project. City Council action is required <br />to award a construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder. <br />BACKGROUND: <br />Council approved the plans and specifications for this project on April 27, 1998. <br />On June 4, 1998, five sealed bids were received and opened with the following <br />results: <br />Company Bid Amount <br />Forest Lake Contracting, Inc. $28,297.00 <br />CCS Contracting $32,154.50 <br />S. R. Weidema $36,892.85 <br />F. F Jedlicki $39,101.00 <br />Ro -So Contracting $39,440.00 <br />Engineer's estimate $34,062.50 <br />The bids were tabulated and no errors were found. The five bids submitted <br />represents a good bidding environment for this type of project and time of year <br />The low bid by Forest Lake Contracting, Inc., is approximately 17% below the <br />engineer's estimate. Staff has worked with Forest Lake Contracting, Inc. in the <br />past and they are a capable contractor capable of completing the required work. <br />FINANCING SUMMARY: <br />The construction costs for this project will be paid by the City's Surface Water <br />Management Fund. <br />
