Radio Board along with MN/DOT has been mandated by legislation to
administer and construct a Regional 800 MHZ Public Safety Radio System, respectively. The
Regional 800MHZ system will initially serve Emergency Medical Services, Minnesota State
Patrol, MN/DOT, and other State and Regional agencies. At the present time, Hennepin County
and City of Minneapolis have made commitments to join the system, and it is possible that other
Metropolitan Counties may join in the future.
As part of this development process, a communications tower site has been identified at the
Department of Corrections, Lino Lakes Facility. A new 250 foot self supporting radio tower, no
guy wires, is proposed for this site. The overall height of the structure including antennas would
be 260 feet. Along with the tower, a equipment shelter, emergency generator and fuel tank are
needed. This new tower along with the equipment shed and generator will be built with extra
capacity for future expansion. The site plan includes the relocation of the existing equipment
shelter for the Department of Corrections, from the water tower location, to the new
communications tower.
As there is no existing city ordinance covering governmental antenna structures, we are asking
for reviewal and approval of this application. This tower will be designed and built as a essential
services, multi -use tower capable of accommodating multiple users. The initial design plans for
this tower are to include antennas from Mn/DOT (for the Regional Radio System) and Dept. of
Corrections, and planned future expansion capability Anoka County if they elect to join the
system.
We also attempted to co- locate at other sites in Lino Lakes, White Bear Lake and White Bear
Lake Township. Initial plans were to place the required equipment on the existing water tower in
White Bear Lake Township, however this site has been fully developed by Sprint, Inc. and is no
longer capable of supporting our needs. We had also investigated the White Bear Lake water
EXHIBIT B
An equal opportunity employer
