Minnesota Department of Transportation
/, Transportation. Building
°F 395 John Ireland Boulevard
Saint Paul, Minnesota 55155 -1899
Mail Stop # 730
July 1, 1998
RESIDENTS OF LINO LAKES
SUBJECT: Public Safety Radio Communications Facility
The Metropolitan Radio Board along with MNIDOT.has been mandated by legislation to
administer and construct a Regional 800 MHZ Public Safety Radio System, respectively. This
Regional 800MHZ system will initially serve Emergency Medical Services, Minnesota State
Patrol, Mn/DOT, and other State and Regional agencies. At the present time, Hennepin County
and City of Minneapolis have made commitments to join the system, and it is possible that other
Metropolitan Counties may join in the future.
As part of this development process, a communications tower site has been identified at the
Department of Corrections, Lino Lakes Facility. A new 250 foot self supporting radio tower, no
guy wires, is proposed for this site. The overall height of the structure including antennas would
be 260 feet. Along with the tower, a equipment shelter, emergency generator and fuel tank are
needed. The site plan includes the relocation of the existing equipment shelter for the
Department of Corrections, from the water tower location, to the new communications tower.
This tower will be designed and built as a essential services, multi -use tower capable of
accommodating multiple users, The tower will be located near the center of the Correctional
Facility property, approximately 300' west - southwest of the existing water tower.
The State of Minnesota will be meeting with the City of Lino Lakes to discuss the details for
development of this required communications facility. The City of Lino Lakes has asked that we
provide you with a courtesy notification of this endeavor.
Sincerely,
Lynn A.
