Main Street volumes range from 7,100 east of the intersection to 7,500 on
the west side. Traffic control at the intersection currently consists of a four way stop
with an overhead flasher. Traffic control is often supplemented by public safety
personnel during p.m. peak periods.
The city continues to receive complaints from concerned citizens regarding the growing
congestion at the intersection as well as safety concerns. A request for a traffic control
change was brought to the city council in September of 2009. The council directed staff
to speak with the county regarding this issue and prepare a resolution for council
consideration.
In 2007, with support from the city , Anoka County submitted an application for federal
transportation funds to reconstruct this intersection. However, the application was
unsuccessful. Improvement of the intersection is not currently included in Anoka
County's 5 -year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Additionally, under the county's cost
participation policy, the city would be responsible for 50% of the construction costs. No
city funds have been identified for an improvement at this location.
Staff has prepared a resolution requesting that the county consider inclusion of the
intersection improvements in their Capital Improvement Program.
ATTACHMENTS
1.
