• AGENDA ITEM 6A
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Mary Alice Divine
CITY COUNCIL
DATE:
TOPIC:
April 25, 2011
Consideration of Resolution No. 11 -46 Accepting a
Donation from Minnesota Metro North Tourism for
Lino Lakes Blue Heron Days Festival
VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5
BACKGROUND:
Twin Cities Gateway, the marketing brand for the Minnesota Metro North
Tourism Bureau, has awarded each member city a grant to be used for
promotion of its annual festival activities. This year's grant is in the amount of
$3,448.00. The grants are based, in part, on each city's lodging receipts for the
previous year.
• The City of Lino Lakes contributed approximately $42,000 in 2010 to the
partnership, leveraging the hotel lodging tax receipts into a much broader
program with a budget of nearly $600,000 that is used to market and promote
the northeast metro area. Some of the accomplishments of Twin Cities Gateway
in 2010 include logo and brand development, website development, and a
lodging partnership with the National Sports Center.
Advertising has been key to increasing awareness of local amenities in
publications such as Explore Minnesota, Midwest Living, AAA Home & Away,
and Mpls. -St. Paul Official Visitors Guide.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff is recommending approval of Resolution No. 11 -46
ATTACHMENTS
1.
