•
•
se
CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM 6E
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Jason C. Wedel, City Engineer
MEETING DATE: May 13, 2012
TOPIC: Consider Resolution No. 13 -113 Approving Change Order No. 1,
2013 Surface Water Management Project
VOTE REQUIRED:
BACKGROUND
3/5 Vote Required
At the September 9, 2013 meeting, City Council awarded the 2013 Surface Water Management
Project to C.W. Houle. Construction began in September and is nearly complete.
It was discussed at the City Council meeting awarding the contract that the project was projected to
come in significantly under budget and that staff would identify an addition project area for City
Council consideration. An additional project area has been identified as the ditch and culvert along
the north side of Birch Street from Deerwood Lane to 600 feet east. The ditch in this area needs to
be cleaned out and the culvert under Deerwood Lane needs to be replaced. Currently, this section
of trail floods each spring to the point that the City has to close it down for public use. The
proposed improvements are intended to alleviate this issue so that any flooding will be minimized
in the future.
The contractor for our current project has reviewed the prepared plans and presented a change order
in the amount of $23,950 to complete this work. Financing for this project as originally proposed is
still sufficient with the proposed change order. A breakdown of the construction cost is as follows:
Original Contract Amount
Engineering Costs
Change Order No. 1
Total Construction Cost
$ 69,988
$ 19,500
$ 23,950
$113,438
Annual Budget $125,000
RECOMMENDATION
Approve Resolution 13 -113, Approving Change Order No. 1, 2013 Surface Water Management
Project.
ATTACHMENTS
1. Resolution No. 13 -113
