2d. What will the final product be? How will it be used? How will it impact your
groups/communities efforts?
The final product will be a report showing effectiveness of Bacteria. If positive results
are identified the information will be reviewed with DNR water officials and could be
implemented on problem areas or included in development recommendations within
the city. The final product will positively impact source water where nutrients are
added.
3a. Describe the responsibilities of the research assistant and the project supervisor.
The research assistant will be responsible for performing water testing, tabulating
data, and providing graphic and written reports of findings. The project supervisor
will set timetables, follow reporting, and inform cooperators as to implementation.
3b. What additional support can your group provide? What additional support will be
required for this project that your group cannot provide and how might it be
obtained?
Our group will provide cooperation from Anoka County Parks, Inver Grove Heights,
and private citizens as well as workspace, mileage, and a product to be used in
testing. Our group may need additional assistance and lab space from the U of M
water testing facilities. Resulting information is only as good as testing procedures.
3c. What skills, experience, and qualifications will be required of the student?
It would be helpful if the student could work independently, have a limnology
background, and previous lab experience. Any past research experiences would be
helpful but not required. Most importantly, the student must be well organized and an
excellent record keeper.
