Council Meeting <br />February 8, 1982 <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />14E <br />IIIMayor Benson reminded the Council members of the packet that must be re- <br />turned to Mr. Loren Law. <br />There was a question from the audience as to why this Council is goint to <br />the prehearing conference on the Supreme Court Case - Mr. Locher said this <br />was what the Council had decided. There was also a question as to when this <br />case could be dropped - Mr. Locher said it could be dropped at any time. <br />There was discussion on how this issue could effect the City's bond rating <br />with Mayor Benson asking that an independent opinion be obtained on this <br />issue. <br />Mr. Reinert introduced the problem of the Sruface Water Management <br />Legislation that is pending and the costs that could be accrued by this City. <br />Mr. Marier agreed with the concept of the independent opinion on the bonding <br />and felt that this Council should meet on this. Mr. Marier moved to meet <br />on Thurday, February 18, 1982. Seconded by Mr. Reinert. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Mr. Schumacher presented the Surface Water Management proposal and read the <br />first two paragraphs of the statement noting the millions of dollars that <br />this project will cost. <br />I Mr. Reinert noted the numner of the bills and the sponsors and explained <br />them briefly. <br />Mr. Reinert moved to instruct Mr. Schumacher to write a letter to the <br />sponsors of these bills, also to Duke Addicks of the League of Minnnesota <br />Cities, and him to lobby against these bills. Mr. Reinert suggested that <br />perhaps a telephone call should preceed the letters. Seconded by Mr. Marier. <br />Motion carried unanimously. <br />Mayor Benson had reeived a letter from E,R, Henricksen with some problems <br />that he would ask that Mr. Locher take and formulate an answer for the next <br />Council meeting. <br />A letter of Thanks should be sent to the Boy Scouts for their presentation <br />at the last Council meeting. Also, the letters to the retiring members of <br />the Planning and Zoning Board and Park Board members should be sent. <br />Mr. Marier moved to adjourn. Seconded by Mr. Reinert.
