144
Council Meeting
February 8, 1982
consideration - the home for battered women, a senior citizens building,
housing rehabilitation - he felt he needed more facts in order to consider
these funds. Mr. Reinert suggested appointing a committee of interested
citizens to research this and report back to the Council.
Mayor Benson felt that the time is too short for this procedure to be
followed and he felt that if the citizens are aware of what is needed,
the proposals should be presented for Council consideration.
Mr. Schumacher reported on a meeting he had attended at Lexington to hear
a proposal from Lexington and Circle Pines for the purchase of Lovell
School. Those two communities have some plans and had suggested that
perhaps Lino Lakes would be interested in the Cafetorium portion of the
building to be used for the Senior Citizens.
The general feeling of the Council was there could be problems in getting
financially involved_ in a building outside the City limits. There was
a question of the legal problems that could evolve.
Mr. Handy, of the Senior Citizens, presented his reasons for his group
not being interested in the proposed Senior Citizens building.
Mr. Schumacher pointed out this is a good example of some of the misinfor-
mation that has been given to the Senior Citizens. Mr. Schumacher pointed
out that the current organization has few members from Lino Lakes and he
noted this building was'being considered for the Citizens of Lino Lakes.
Mr. Reinert wondered how many of the people of his organization were actual
residents of Lino Lakes and Mr. Handy said he would get a list to the
City offices by the first of the week.
A list of some of the proposals by the citizens was presented - they pro-
posed to use the money for housing rehab, the Alexandra House, storm
shelter for the trailer court. Some facts and figures on these proposals
was presented for Council consideration.
The general consensus of the Council was that, if someone has a project
they should put the proposal in writing to include the dollar amount and
what can be constructed for those dollars. This information to be in the
next Council packet.
ATTORNEY's EEPORT
Mr. Locher reported that he had received notice from the Courts that a
prehearing conference is set for Feb 19, 1982 at 1:00 P.M. at the State
Capitol Building. The Judge will make a recommendation from that confer-
ence as to h-ow this should be resolved. This is in relationship to the
Supreme Court hearing on the proposed sewer project.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Reinert asked that the Engineer check with surrounding communities
as to how they handle request for bonding by private developers. Mr.
Reinert so moved. Seconded by Mr. Marier.
Mr. Gotwald said they could put in writing what policy other communities
in the Northern suburbs are following.
