Mr. Volk pointed out the savings in fuel costs. The
savings for the year for the two vehicles paid for the conversion and
a savings of $978.00.
Mr. Marier asked how long does a squad car last? Mr. Volk said the
squad cars are kept on the road for 3 years as squad cars and then
are used by other memberso bf the City staff.
Mayor Benson asked if the system could be transferred to another
vehicle and Mr. Volk said, Yes, they may be transferred to a vehicle
of similar size and make. There was discussion on the possibility of
recovering some of the installation cost if this equipment was installed
on a different type of vehicle.
Mr. Marier said his study shows thiat it is not feasible on vehicles
of less than one ton.
Mr. Volk recommended the continued use of propane in the converted
vehicles and to install propane in the one tine truck and the 1983
squad car. In the future, order vehicles propaned powered.
Mrs. Elsenpeter felt that the two types of squad vehicles - one truck
and one sedan - for testing the types of vehicles to see which gave
the best service - she suggested converting the truck to propane, this
would make that test valid.
Mr. Schumacher said she was correct but, if the recommendation is
approved, the original test would be completed by the time the con-
version is done.
Mr. Kulaszewicz moved to approve Mr. Volk's recommendation. Seconded
by Mr. Reinert.
Mr. Reinert asked why whouldn't it work if just the one ton was con-
verted and continue the test for one year. Mr. Reinert removed the
second from the motion. Mr. Kulaszewicz withdrew his motion.
Mr. Reinert moved to convert the one ton 1983 dump truck included in
the recommendations and run a test on this vehicle along with the
other two vehicles, and to contiue to monitor the police vehicles.
Seconded by Mr. Kulaszewicz.
