77
July 25, 1983
The Clerk was instructed to publish in the paper that the City is
looking for a Fire Marshall and will accept applications to be accompanied
by a resume.
RENEGOTIATION OF BUILDING INSPECTOR CONTRACT WITH CIRCLE PINES
Mr. Schumacher noted that the Council has the copy of the letter from
Circle Pines requesting this action. This was a part of the contract.
Mayor Benson suggested that the City of Circle Pines present a proposal
for this Council's consideration.
Mr. Schumacher asked for authorization to meet with Craig Rapp and work
out some sort of an agreement to bring back to the Council for their
consideration. The consensus of the Council was for Mr. Schumacher to
proceed on this basis.
LOW BID - SENIOR CENTER
Mr. Schumacher reported that on July 19, 1983 the City received eleven
(11) bids for the construction for the addition to City Hall and the
Senior Citizen Center. The low bidder was Duoos Construction in the
amount of $172,357.00. Mr. Schumacher had prepared a cost breasdown as
to the amount for the Senior Center and the amount for the City Hall
addition and the proposed financing for each. Mr. Duoos had supplied
a resume and letters of recommendations for his firm and Mr. Schumacher
noted that Mr. Suoos is in the audience if the Council has any questions
of him.
Mayor Benson asked that Mr. Schumacher explain what the alternates are
and what the costs are for each alternate.
There was discussion as to the locations of the Oak Flooring and how
large an area would be covered in this manner.
Mayor Benson asked how far into the construction would the vinyl walls
and air conditioning be installed and Mr. Duoos said it would more
economical to install during the construction than to install after the
building is completed.
Mr. Duoos stated that, in his ipinion, unless that skylight served some
specific purpose, it is only a decoration and is hard to maintain.
Mr. Schumacher noted this is a very long hall way without windows and
this is a light source.
Mr. Reinert asked about the financing and was told there are funds for
the base bid and alternatived #1 and #2. Mr. Reinert felt the building
should be warm and comfortable or else it will not be used.
Mr. Reinert questioned the cost of installing lighting in the hallway
if the skylight is eleiminated. Mr. Duoos did not have a breakdown on
that costs. Mr. Reinert felt that if the costs are comprable, then the
skylight should be installed. There was some discussion on the cost of
maintaining the skylight.
Mr. Marier moved to approve the low bid of $172,357.00 submitted by the
Duoos Construction Company of New Brighton to include Alternates #2,3,
& 5. Seconded by Mr. Reinert. Motion carried unanimously.
