March 26, 1984
205
precincts for voting purposes. The proposed dividing line is I35W
with Precinct I to be North and West of I35W and Precinct II South and
East of I35W.
Mr. Kulaszewicz and Mr. Marier both reported on phone calls they had
received. It would seem that the residents of the City feel this proposal
deals with the establishment of a 'ward' system of voting in this City.
There was discussion on a method of informing them this is a 'precinct'
system and merely splits the voters into several polling places. This
was done at the request of the Council and tolessen the crush of voters
at the one polling place now used in the City.
There was discussion on how the residents could be informed of this
action and how it would affect them. A suggestion of sending out a news
letter was made - also a supplement to be stuffed in the legal papers -
perhaps an informational meeting.
Mayor Benson asked for amotion to instruct the Clerk to draft a letter
for consideration at the April 9, 1984 meeting and then have an infor-
mational meeting at the April 23, 1984 meeting. Mr. Marier so moved.
Seconded by MR. Kulaszewicz. Motion carried unanimosly.
The Clerk requested consideration of her request for the purchase of
additional voting machines. She noted the reqeust if for six new
machines but there is money in the budget to cover eight and thought
that perhaps eight should be purchased at this time.
Mr. Kulaszewicz moved to authorize the purchase of eight protable voting
machines. Seconded by Mr. Marier. Motion carried unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
Mr. Schumacher requested a meeting of the Ways & Means Committee be
scheduled. After some discussion, this committee will meet on March
30, 1984 - the time to be set at a later date.
NEW BUSINESS
Mayor Benson presented a proclamation naming the week of April 8th
through the 14th as REaltor Week.
Mr. Kulaszewicz moved to approve this Proclamation. Seconded by Mr.
Bohjanen. Motion carried unanimously.
Mayor Benson announced there has only been one submission for consideration
for appointment to teh Park Board - Mr. William Nissen.
Mr.Kulaszewicz moved to approve the appointment of Mr.William Nissen to
the Park Board. Seconded by Mr. Reinert. Motion carried unanimously.
Mayor Benson made note of the resignation of Mr. Victor Poyer as a member
of the Police Department. The Council requested Chief Myhre to present
a recommendation to the Council at the April 9, 1984 meeting.
Mayor BEnson also referred to Mr. Bill Short's leeter informing the
Council of his move out of the State. He requested a letter of Thanks
be forwarded to Mr. Short.
