1
1
1
045
C€QNC I L MEETING
November 13, 1984
Page Three
and this program could be phased in over several years. Mr. Don
Hoglund is also working on a device that could warn deaf persons.
This particular radio is not just a weather alert radio, but also
an emergency alert radio.
Mr. Marier asked if Mr. Cape was suggesting the City buy the radios
or if the City would sell them at a reduced cost. Mr. Cape felt
if the resident had to pay something they would take better care
of the radio.
Mr. Marier asked who would maintain the radios. Mr. Cape said the
radio in the clerk's office is 5 or 6 years old and has never needed
repair. One of the Civil Defense members could also repair them.
Mr. Cape said the Federal Government is recommending sirens as the
means of warning the public. He said the only cities currently
getting federal money for the sirens are large cities with full -
time staff and power to obtain the funds. The funds are not avail-
able to Lino Lakes.
Mr. Marier asked Mr. Cape to return next month with further informa-
tion for the Council.
Mr. Marier moved to table this item until next month. Mr. Bohjanen
seconded the motion. Motion carried.
PUBLIC HEARING - SENIOR CENTER PUBLIC SERVICE PROJECT - COMMUNITY
DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT - RESOLUTION #84 -32.
Mr. Marier opened the public hearing at 7:40 P.M. Mr. Schumacher
told the Council this resolution is for designating $7,367 for
basic operation of the Senior Center for the first year. It is
an eligible project and he outlined the expenses. He also noted
the seniors' plan to have fund raisers and expect participation
from service organizations to help with their expenses.
Mr. Reinert asked if the expense for the coordinator will be an
ongoing expense. Mr. Schumacher felt this would be up to the
seniors, however, they expect to be self supporting. This resolu-
tion is just for the organizational or introductory expenses for
one year.
Mr. Bohjanen suggested that at the end of the fourth (4th) para-
graph of Resolution 84 -32, the wording "for one year as outlined"
be added.
Mr. Kulaszewicz moved to close the public hearing at 7:40 P.M.
Mr. Bohjanen seconded the motion. Motion carried.
Mr. Kulaszewicz moved to adopt Resolution #84 -32 with the fourth
paragraph amended as suggested by Mr. Bohjanen. Mr. Bohjanen
seconded the motion. Motion carried.
