COUNCIL MEETING <br />Page Five February 11, 1985 <br />WHEREAS, the Cities of Circle Pines, Lino Lakes, and Center- <br />ville have entered into a joint powers agreement to create the Centenn- <br />ial Fire Department; and <br />WHEREAS, the Circle Pines and Centerville Fire Departments <br />were merged to create the Centennial Fire Department, and <br />WHEREAS, the Centennial Fireman's Relief Association was in- <br />corporated to provide pension benefits to members of the new Fire De- <br />partment; and <br />WHEREAS, Minnesota Statutes required that the Circle Pines <br />and Centerville Fireman's Relief Associations be dissolved and that <br />all pension funds be distributed; and <br />WHEREAS,. Minnesota Statutes prohibit the Centennial Fireman's <br />Relief Association from distributing pension benfi'ts for at least ten <br />years, and then only on a partially vested basis; and <br />113 <br />WHEREAS, members of the former Circle Pines and Centerville <br />Fire Departments will reach twenty years of fire service but will be <br />prohibited from receiving a pension due to Statutory limitations; then <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Lino Lakes hereby <br />supports the adoption of special legislation that will allow the Centennial <br />Fireman's Relief Association to pay a pension to each member of the pre- <br />vious Circle Pines and Centerville Fire Departments, after 20 years of <br />combined service. Such pension to be determined by the member's accrued <br />liability in the Centennial Relief Association' and <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that Senators Novak and Dahl, and <br />Representatives Voss and Quinn be requested to work toward passage of <br />such legislation during the current session of the Legislature. <br />Adopted this Eleventh day of Febru <br />Marilyn G. The candidates will be <br />narrowed down to three or four and recommended the City Council hold a <br />special meeting to interview the final candidates rather than the regular <br />meeting of February 25, 1985. <br />IThe Council will meet Thursday, February 28, 1985 at 6:30 P.M. to inter- <br />view the final Chief of Police candidates. <br />
