1 <br />SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING <br />February 28, 1985 <br />Page Two <br />Mr. Norman Schaible, who is currently a captain with the Mankato <br />police department explained his background in police protection. <br />He has looked over the community and feels he would enjoy working <br />here. He explained he would have no difficulty in being a working <br />chief wherein he sometimes would be wearing a uniform and perform- <br />ing patrol duty. <br />Mr. Dean Campbell who is currently Chief of Police in Winsted, <br />Minnesota appeared before the Council. He explained he has been <br />in law enforcement for approximately 17 years, the first eight <br />years in the metropolitan area, 15 years of the 17 years in super- <br />visory positions; six years as a sergeant in Mound, six years in <br />St. Cloud as Under Sheriff, last two years as Chief of Police. <br />He is interested in returning to the metropolitan area especially <br />Anoka County. Mr. Campbell felt the interview process was very <br />interesting and comprehensive. <br />Mr. Campbell said he would have no problem being a working Chief, <br />his first concern is law enforcement. He also said he has no <br />problem with the administrative portion of the position. <br />Mayor Benson noted that Mr. Campbell has held several positions <br />in the last several years and asked Mr. Campbell if selected would <br />he plan to stay here for any length of time. Mr. Campbell said <br />it is his desire to return to the metropolitan area and he feels <br />this department will grow and he will be quite satisfied here. <br />The Council recessed until 8:32 P.M. <br />Mr. Marier asked that the selection committee be sent a thank you <br />from the City Council and Mayor. <br />Mayor Benson asked that these letters be signed by each Council - <br />member individually. Mayor Benson thanked Mr. Marier for his time <br />and effort in this selection process. <br />Mr. Bohjanen asked that each applicant be notified that a selection <br />has been made and be thanked for considering working for the City <br />of Lino Lakes. <br />Mayor Benson thanked Officer Zerwas for stepping in as Officer <br />in Charge. <br />Mr. Bohjanen moved to hire Dean Campbell as Chief of Police. Mr. <br />Kulaszewicz seconded the motion. <br />Mr. Reinert said this City was extremely fortunate in having three <br />good candidates who were interested in coming to Lino Lakes. <br />Voting on the motion, motion carried unanimously. <br />127 <br />
