Motion carried unanimously. <br />Mr. Schumacher asked for some direction. Mayor Benson said it was <br />tabled until the next Council Meeting. <br />CONSIDERATION OF WAYS AND MEANS COMMITTEE CONCERNING INTERIM EMPLOYEE <br />REVIEWS <br />Mr. Schumacher explained that the City Clerk - Treasurer and the Build- <br />ing Official had interim reviews earlier this month as requested at <br />the beginning of the year by the Ways and Means Committee. A memoran- <br />dum was included in the Council packets explaining each recommendation <br />and the suggestion they be reviewed again in October, 1985. The Comm- <br />ittee has recommended the Building Official be given a three percent <br />raise effective June 1, 1985 and the Clerk- Treasurer be given $400 per <br />year increase effective June 1, 1985. <br />Mr. Kulaszewicz moved to approve the recommendations of the Ways and <br />Means Committee for the position of Building Official and the City <br />Clerk- Treasurer. Mr. Bohjanen seconded the motion. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />A. Police Task Force Report - Mayor Benson explained that since two <br />Council members were not at the last Council Meeting when the Report <br />was given this item was placed on the agenda again to give everyone <br />a chance to ask questions or give comments on the report. Mr. McKenna <br />was present to answer any questions. <br />Mr. Reinert asked what the projections of the future growth of the <br />Police Department were based on Mr. McKenna said the recommenda- <br />tion was based on the averages of one police officer per 1,000 citi- <br />zens they serve throughout Minnesota and specifically for communities <br />the size of Lino Lakes. The recommendations do not take into consid- <br />eration any population increase which will certainly happen. <br />Mr. Reinert asked why the starting pay for new officers in Lino Lakes <br />is one of the highest in the state? How did this get started? Mr. <br />Schumacher explained that a step program was installed when the Lino <br />Lakes Police Department became unionized in 1976. The step program <br />has been adjusted with each union negotiation. Mr. Reinert commented <br />that about three years ago during negotiations he was told salaries <br />were in line. He thought it was an excellent study. <br />Mr. Marier thanked the Task Force Members for their time and work but <br />said he was surprised at the recommendation for another police car. <br />He could understand the recommendation to increase the number of po- <br />lice officers and felt this should be done in steps.
