072 <br />COUNCIL MEETING <br />August 12, 1985 <br />Page Nine <br />OLD BUSINESS <br />Mayor Benson has received a letter from the Forest Lake School District <br />#831 informing him there will be a meeting on Wednesday evening. He <br />felt some one from the Council should attend this since the Council is <br />on record indicating they would work with District #831 to try to re- <br />duce school taxes. Mr. Bohjanen and Mr. Marier will attend. <br />Mr. Arnold Kelling has sent the Council a copy of the letter he received <br />from Senator Dave Durenberger in answer to his letter regarding Mr. <br />Reaggn's tax reform plan which repeals the federal income tax ded- <br />uction for state and local taxes. <br />NEW BUSINESS <br />Mr. Kulaszewicz met the mayor of Shoreview today who asked if the Lino <br />Lakes City Council would consider meeting with the Shoreview City Coun- <br />cil to discuss development in both cities. Mayor Benson asked Mr. Sch- <br />umacher to set a meeting some time in September. <br />Mayor Benson noted the City Clerk has brought to his attention that <br />state law regarding the period of time for candidates to file affidavits <br />of candidacy has now been changed by the state legislature. Since the <br />City Charter followed previous state law it should be brought to the <br />Charter Commissions attention. <br />Mayor Benson wanted <br />everone e to have a copy of Mr. Schumacher 's letter to <br />the Minnesota Correctional Facility. <br />Mayor Benson wanted all Council Members to note an article in the League <br />of Minnesota Cities recent publication regarding signs and signing. <br />Speed limits are set by state statutes and a city may not change them <br />unless it receives consent from the Minnesota Department of Transportat- <br />ion. <br />The Council recessed at 9:05 P.M. to discuss the Wilson law suit. <br />The Council reconvened at 9:23 P.M. <br />Mr. Kulaszewicz moved to authorize the City Attorney to work with the <br />City Engineer to determine the feasibility of the settlement proposal <br />from Mr. Wilson. Mr. Bohjanen seconded the motion. Motion carried <br />unanimously. <br />Mr. Marier moved to adjourn at 9:25 P.M. Mr. Kulaszewicz seconded the <br />motion.
