5
The Public Works Department also assisted in the renovation of the
ICity and Police offices and completed landscaping, planting and
irrigation for the front of the municipal complex. This was not a
small undertaking and I would like to thank them for a job well done.
We can certainly be proud of our City Hall.
This year we initiated and completed the first repairs to the City
storm water collection system. This maintenance will continue into
1986.
1986 should be an equally busy year for the Public Works Department.
We have an ambitious roadway program of sealcoating 11.8 lane miles
and overlaying 7.5 lane miles. In addition to these programs, the
ICity will continue construction of our first MSA roadway on 4th Avenue,
and continue the process of bridge rehabilitation and right -of -way
purchase on 80th St. in accordance with County State Aid Highway desig-
nation.
The City expects to acquire two major pieces of equipment in 1986 -
the first being a dump /plow truck which will update the city fleet
with snow fighting capabilities. The second vehicle will be a mini
dump /plow truck used to expedite snow removal in cul -de -sacs and
dead end roads. Both vehicles are replacements for outdated equip-
ment presently in use.
IIn a forward thinking project, the City Code was updated with new
street construction standards that should eliminate the need for
any maintenance for new roads in their first five years.
