9. Perform the duties of Public Safety Director in his/her absence. <br />10. Identify programs that enhance police services; detect issues that detract from providing <br />quality police services in the City. <br />11. Ensure all staff is trained, proficient, and functional in a manner that results in the <br />delivery of high quality services. <br />12. Maintain effective community relations through citizen engagement by providing a <br />participatory process to establish goals, objectives, priorities, and programs. <br />13. Establish and maintain effective interagency relationships between the City, residents, <br />and other governmental agencies to ensure proper handling of requests and complaints. <br />14. Represents the department in court, at public meetings, and other community functions <br />when Public Safety Director is not available. <br />15. Prepare, submit, and manage division and personal action plans that includes goals, <br />objectives, and standards to be achieved. <br />16. The job description is subject to change as requirements of the job change. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />1. Knowledge, proficiency and accuracy in the use of computer applications and <br />software/hardware, including Microsoft Office Suite (word processing, spreadsheet and <br />power point presentations). <br />2. Strong verbal and written communication skills. <br />3. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with all City staff, elected officials <br />and the general public. <br />4. Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with supervisors, co- <br />workers, elected officials and the general public. <br />5. Ability to work independently and to prioritize work. <br />6. Knowledge of fire services procedures and practices. <br />7. Knowledge of principles and procedures of record keeping. <br />8. Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information. <br />9. Ability to work varied hours to attend meetings and accomplish the public safety mission. <br />2 <br />
