CITY COUNCIL
AGENDA ITEM 4B
STAFF ORIGINATOR: Chief John Swenson
MEETING DATE: July 28, 2014
TOPIC: Sergeant Promotion
VOTE REQUIRED: 3/5
INTRODUCTION
The Lino Lakes Police Department is requesting council approval to promote one Police
Officer to the rank of Sergeant.
BACKGROUND
On May 30, 2014, Sergeant Dale Hager resigned from the police department to take a Captain
position with the City of White Lake, which created a vacancy in the Patrol Division for a
Sergeant.
The police department has established a Sergeant Eligibility list to fill this vacancy. The
Sergeant promotion testing process included:
1. Application
2. Background & Experience Evaluation
3. Leadership Assessment
4. Oral Interview
This promotional process has been extensive and has identified sergeant candidates that will
continue the proud tradition of providing high quality public safety services.
The 2014 Approved Budget is funded for 25 sworn positions, which include 5 Sergeant
Positions. The promotion of Officer Chad Schirmers to Sergeant will bring the police to back
to the full complement of five Sergeants. Approval of this request will not result in an increase
to personnel cost for the police department.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends the Council approve the promotion of Officer Chad Schirmers to Sergeant
effective August 10, 2014.
ATTACHMENTS
None
