PUBLIC HEARING - POST OFFICE
Mayor Benson opened the Public Hearing at 7:02 P.M. and introduced
Mr. Roger Nelson, Director of Customer Services. Mr. Nelson intro-
duced Sharon Brown, Postmaster at Circle Pines, Harold Peterson,
Postmaster at Hugo and John Sozma, Address Information Office.
Mr. Nelson stated the Postal Service policy; the Postal Office pro-
vides service which is cost effective and provides the customer
with dependable and reliable postal service. There are 33
square miles in Lino Lakes itself and the City is unique in that it
completely surrounds another City and is also almost completely
divided in half vertically by a chain of lakes. There are 1,551
residences and 58 businesses in the Circle Pines postal area; 34
residences in the Forest Lake postal area; 246 residences and one
business in the Hugo area; 76 in the White Bear Lake area and 35 in
the Shoreview postal area. The post office realizes there is a
problem in Lino Lakes because of the five different post offices
delivering here. He noted 70% of the deliveries are made out of
the Circle Pines Post Office.
Mr. Sozma presented the correct way to address mail to be delivered
to Lino Lakes. This was a four line address with Lino Lakes being
written directly under the name and the fourth line indicating the
correct post office and zip code. Mr. Sozma indicated that accord-
ing to growth projection figures, Lino Lakes will not have its own
post office with its own zip code until after the year 2000. Even
then the entire City would probably never be covered by one zip code
because of its unique problems. He also noted that Lino Lakes cannot
