COUNCIL MEETING
February 24, 1986
Page Four
Mr. Marier noted other problems such as mail beling delivered to
wrong addresses and delivery service being delayed.
Mr. and Mrs. Marazzo submitted a two -page letter listing the prob-
lems they have encountered with the Circle Pines mail delivery.
Ms. Brown said that the Circle Pines Post Office has recently ad-
ded another route to their service. Also some boundaries of diff-
erent routes have been changed but the mail should be. coming on a
more regular basis. The Marazzo's were concerned because the mail
is delivered too late. Ms. Brown said this will probably continue
until that route is changed.
Mr. Nelson was asked why it.takes three days to get mail from Minne-
apolis? He explained it is a problem the post office is working on.
Mr. Karth asked who authorizes the establishment of a new post of-
fice. Mr. Nelson said Washington, D.C. and said the criteria would
be the needs of the community on providing reliable and dependable
postal service. The City has now demonstrated the need that it
would like to be identified as Lino Lakes. Mr. Nelson would like
to consider this need, however the over riding consideration is the
cost efficiency of the postal service and still give reliable pos-
tal service. He said he could not recommend to Washington that a
branch office be established in Lino Lakes.
Mr. Gray asked why the computer cannot be programmed to cross ref-
erence Hugo and or Lino Lakes or Circle Pines and Lino Lakes at the
same time. Mr. Nelson did not address this question, but said if
residents want their mail delivered on a timely manner they should
address their mail as he suggested tonight.
Mr. Nelson said if there is a problem with the mail being sorted
improperly or other carrier type questions, they should be directed
to the post master.
Mr. Marier moved to close the public hearing at 7:55 P.M. Mr. Boh-
janen seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Mayor. Benson thanked Mr. Nelson for coming tonight and asked that
he followup and contact all the businesses regarding a contract sta-
tion. Mr. Nelson said he would send the Clerk a copy of his corr-
espondence.
OPEN MIKE
Mr. Goertz cancelled his appearance before Open Mike. There was
nobody else to speak at this time.
1
1
