The Council has invited the four applicants to ap-
pear tonight so that the Council may interview them. Each appli-
cant has received a letter from Mr. Schumacher asking them to re-
spond to several questions. Mayor Benson asked that each candidate
respond to these questions.
Ms. Julie LeBlond - Ms. LeBlond told the Council she has a strong
interest on how the City is developing. She has been on several
other Boards and has taken some time to return to school. Now
that her school work is completed, she would like to become more
involved again. She said her school would not interfer with being
able to attend all meetings. Land use is a major concern to her
because land is still reasonably priced in Lino Lakes, growth will
continue at a high rate. Planned growth is another major concern.
If an issue is presented that may cause a conflict of issue, she
would remove herself from voting. Ms. LeBlond said she felt her
greatest strengths were knowledge of the City and how government
works.
Ms. Arlene Averbeck - Ms. Averbeck told the Council she feels a
need to become more involved with local government and has developed
an interest. She felt if an issue arose that could present a con-
flict of interest she would offer information but withdraw from
voting. The major planning issues for her are development because
this is a diverse City and would like to keep the diverse features
She felt Lino Lakes greatest strength now is the Zoning Ordinance
and would continue to encourage that it be followed.
Ms. Pat Sorenson - Ms. Sorenson felt she could lend a new aspect to
the Planning and Zoning Board, to allow it to be more felxible and
add some new ideas or originality. She said she would withdraw
from any issue that could present a conflict of interest. The
major planning issues are many but she is interested in a standard
that would bring Lino Lakes together as one community. For the past
year she has been working to get a.degree in Administrative Communi-
cation and felt she could utilize her education on the Planning ind
Zoning Board. She has not had any prior experience with Planning
and Zoning
Ms. Cheryl Nelson - Ms. Nelson explained she has had eleven years
experience in municipal government through working for a suburb in the
engineering field and has experience in administering bonds for
developers. She is also experienced with the process of development
and with the terminology and basic ordinances and has training in
flood plain management. She explained her view of the principle
role of the Planning and Zoning Board is to review development
proposals and act as an advisory board for the City Council. If a
