COUNCIL MEETING
March 10, 1986
Page Two
Mr. Benjamin told the Council that the depreciation issue has been
settled and a financial report will be prepared by the end of March.
An audit can then be completed.
Mr. Andy Neal has been appointed by this Council as Lino Lakes'
second fire commissioner. Mr. Benjamin said that he was an excel-
lent choice and is giving the Commission some fresh new ideas.
Mr. Benjamin has gone over protocol with both Lino Lakes' Chief of
Police and Circle Pines' Chief of Police regarding medical calls
and feels this problem will be worked out by the Police Chiefs.
There has been criticism by She volunteer fire fighters in that
they feel the organization is being run like a military organiza-
tion. Mr.Benjamin felt that since these persons are volunteers
they should be allowed some flexibility.
Mr. Bohjanen noted that as far as the problem with too many people
at the scene of a medical, he felt it was better to have too many
than not enough.
Mr. Reinert referred to a recent newspaper item regarding costs of
the fire district and asked for Mr. Benjamin's comments on this
item. Mr. Benjamin said since 1985 was the first year of operation,
there is nothing to compare their costs to. However, he said both
Centerville and Circle Pines will see decreased costs in 1986. In
addition costs are now being isolated and a truer picture is coming
forth.
Mr. Bisel said he has visited the fire fighting facilities and was
very impressed with the operation and speed of the department.
Mayor Benson thanked Mr. Benjamin for coming this evening.
CONSIDERATION OF APPOINTING GAS UTILITY CITIZEN REPRESENTATIVES
Mr. Marier moved to appoint Alfred Ross as a citizen representative
because he meets the criteria as set out by Mr. Schumacher's memo-
randum of March 4, 1986. Mr. Reinert seconded the motion.
Mayor Benson said he had received an inquiry from Ms. Julie LeBlond
who is interested in sitting on this committee.
Voting on the motion, motion carried with Mr. Bohjanen voting no.
Mr. Reinert moved to appoint Ms. Julie LeBlond as a citizen represen-
tative. Mr. Marier seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously.
1
1
