Mr. Marier moved to approve
( Disbursements with the exception of the AT &T bill as pre-
sented. Mr. Bohjanen seconded the motion. Motion carried unani-
mously.
OPEN MIKE
A. Diane Harberts, Transportation Specialist, Anoka County -
Ms. Harberts explained she has two purposes for coming before the
Council this evening; 1) to give the Council an update on the
transportation service that has been operating in the area on an
experimental basis; 2) to solicit Council interest to further
investigate sponsoring a permanent service. Ms. Harberts explained
the ride program, where it operated, how many people it served and
that its first priority was to provide service to congregate dining.
Ms. Harberts asked the Council to consider appointing a staff mem-
ber and a community representative to join with Centerville, Lex-
ington and Circle Pines representatives to review the different
options available for providing transportation on a permanent ba-
sis.
Mayor Benson asked how did the participation compare to the original
projections. Ms. Harberts explained the County had access to Cen-
tennial School District Census which indicated there were over 800
seniors in the Centennial area. She felt the need was adequate and
the costs of the trial services were lower than had been anticipated.
She anticipated an increase in use since the trial service had been
operated on a very limited basis.
