1
- 119
COUNCIL MEETING
June 23, 1986
Page Three
A packet was presented to each Council Member containing a
Twin Cities Area Transit System Map, Regional Transit Board
1985 Annual Report, Transit Service Needs Assessment and a
Citizen's Guide to the Regional Transit Board.
Mr. Perovich told the Council that the Regional Transit Board
is now focusing on future issues which will include Phase II
of the Transit Service Needs Assessment,' metro mobility and a
more detailed analysis of the Anoka County Area transit needs.
Mr. Skrebes noted that Lino Lakes is currently updating its
Comprehensive Land Use Plan and asked that transportation needs
be addressed in the plan. He asked that areas planned for in-
tense development be identified so that future timetables for
bus service can be addressed. In this area Mr. Perovich said
they would like to work with developers before plans are com-
pleted to identify the best transportation options.
Ms. Turnbull explained that the Board is also looking at alter -
native types of transportation such as metro mobility and ride
sharing. However the Board would like to hear from Lino Lakes
as to what Lino Lakes perceives its transit needs to be. Pres-
ently the Transit Board is conducting its transit needs assess-
ment which is an overall view of the transit service and needs
in the Metro Area and a more detailed analysis of Anoka County
Area to the year 2000. Some needs have been identified. It is
expected that metro mobility will be extended into Lino Lakes
by January 1, 1987. Mayor Benson asked how the Council can
answer questions from citizens regarding future bus service.
Mr. Perovich said again they would like to be in on the planning
of major new subdivisions to give their expertise so that new
projects can be developed around transit.
Mayor Benson said that the City would like to know how to go
about including bus transportation in other areas of the City,
and what population factors would determine where to expect fu-
ture routes.
Mr. Bisel noted transportation needs are not just downtown. There
is some need to get around in this area.
Mayor Benson thanked Mr. Skrebe, Mr. Perovich, and Ms. Turnbull
for coming tonight and asked the City Administrator to gather
information and bring it back to Council in the near future as
well as passing on the information to the Planning and Zoning
Board.
CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION #14 -86
Mr. Huss explained the purpose of this resolution was to distri-
bute the reserve that was earmarked for union and nonunion salary
