PUBLIC WORKS
City crews will be busy this summer with a very aggressive
road surfacing program. Over four miles of roads will be com-
pleted this year. The City anticipates seal coating approximately
12 miles of city streets as well.
Thanks to the light snow fall this winter, the new plowing
equipment purchased in fall of 1986 (one 34,000 G.V.W. dump
plowing truck and one 10,000 G.V.W. mini dump plowing truck)
were used sparingly.
Road construction will be heavier than usual, starting this
Spring. These projects include 4th Avenue between Main Street
and State Trunk Highway 49, Main Street between 35W and 4th Avenue,
and 80th Street between 20th Avenue and 24th Avenue.
A major dilema that faced the Public Works Department this
past spring, was the severe flooding that occured throughout
the City. The heavy rains of May combined with already high
water tables created an inconvenience, to say the least, to
many residents. I was very impressed how well our City workers,
members of the Civil Defense Corps, and residents pulled together
to make the best of a bad situation. A 24 -hour shuttle service
was developed for the residents of West Shadow Lake Drive for
two weeks. I believe these individuals are to be commended.
A compost site is a goal for the Public Works Department
for 1987. This site will be located within the Chain of Lakes
Regional Park and will be used and operated by Lino Lakes,
Circle Pines . Lexington
and Anoka County.
The City will also continue with its tree planting program.
This will be the third year for the program, which becomes more
successful with each year.
