096
COUNCIL MEETING APRIL 27, 1987
he gets along well with the other officers. There was discussion about
the amount of training and numerous schools Mr. Hammes has attended.
Mr. Marier moved to approve Chief Campbell's recommendation and hire
William Hammes as a new police officer. Mr. Bisel seconded the
motion. Motion carried unanimously.
Mayor Benson told Chief Campbell that it has been brought to his
attention that the appearance and manner in which the police officers
are handling themselves is much, much better and he asked that Chief
Campbell pass this comment on to his officers.
CONSIDERATION OF RANDY SCHUMACHER'S RECOMMENDATION FOR HIRING OF CITY
ACCOUNTING CLERK
Mr. Schumacher explained he advertised this position in the
Minneapolis and St. Paul papers as well as the local papers. He
received over twenty responses and noted that all the applicants had
limited work experience and no experience in municipal accounting.
Most have just graduated from college or were out just a short time.
He recommended that the Council hire Paula Romocky as outlined in his
memorandum to the Council. Mr. Reinert asked why Mr. Schumacher was
recommending Ms. Romocky when all candidates appeared to have the same
qualifications. Mr. Schumacher explained she appeared to be a fast
learner, had an excellent college degree, had taken more practical
class work and based on her grade point average.
Mr. Marier moved to accept Mr. Schumacher's recommendation and hire
Paula Romocky. Mr. Bisel seconded the motion. Motion carried
unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS
Economic Development Committee - At the last Council meeting, Mr.
Schumacher was asked to contact the previous members of this committee
and determine why they were not interested in continuing on this
Board. Mr. Schumacher did contact them and was told that basically
they-did not have the time to devote to the Board and one member felt
there was not sufficient support from the Council in combination with
the time needed to give the Board his full support. Mr. Schumacher is
still trying to contact the one applicant to the P & Z Board but has
not been successful. To date there has been only one person, Gene
Mobley who has indicated willingness to serve on this Board.
Mayor Benson asked Mr. Schumacher to continue to follow up on this
matter. Mr. Schumacher asked for further suggestions. Mr. Bisel
suggested that this Board should get going and suggested that it start
with the members recommended by Mr. Schumacher at the last Council
PAGE 12
1
1
