BUDGET MEETING <br />December 22, 1986 <br />Mr. Reinert felt this type of a vehicle was a luxury and the City did <br />not have the dollars for this type of purchase. Mr. Marier expressed <br />that he did not feel a Bronco or Blazer was the right vehicle, but <br />should set up a universal use four wheel drive vehicle. He suggested <br />having L & Z design a vehicle for the uses proposed by Chief Campbell <br />Chief Campbellwas asked if a computer was a realistic purchase for the <br />Police Department. He explained that the $7,000 proposed for this <br />purchase was not enough. Softwear for police use is very expensive. <br />The computer would be used strictly inhouse for record keeping. <br />Mr. Bisel explained he would like a sufficient surplus and explained <br />what happened to the White Bear School District a few years ago when <br />their state aid was reduced because the district had been prudent and <br />had provided for a rainy day. Mayor Benson explained the City Audi- <br />tors have recommended a six month operating surplus and the Council <br />should strive to accummulate this. <br />Mr. Reinert asked if the proposed addition of one police officer as- <br />sumes that Lino Lakes will assume coverage for Columbus Township. <br />Chief Campbell said no, if Columbus Township becomes a reality, a <br />second officer would be needed. <br />Mayor Benson asked if the 1987 overlay program will be completed with <br />the additional $44,000.00.
