1
COUNCIL MEETING
February 9, 1987
Page Two
A special meeting of the Council and the Planning and Zoning Board
took place earlier this evening to discuss this issue and others.
The four P & Z Boardmembers present at that meeting were in favor
of continuing with a 7- member board.
MOTION: Mr. Marier moved to continue with a 7- member Planning and
Zoning Board and disapprove Ordinance 03 -87 which would create a
5- member board. Mr. Reinert seconded the motion. Motion passed
with Mr. Bisel and Mr. Bohjanen voting no.
APPOINTMENTS TO PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD
The three vacancies on the Planning and Zoning Board were filled as
follows:
MOTION: Mr. Bohjanen moved to appoint Jeff Joyer to the P & Z Board.
Mr. Bisel seconded the motion which carried with Mr. Marier voting no.
MOTION: Mr. Marier moved to appoint Charles Prokop to the P & Z
Board. Mr. Bisel seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
MOTION: Mr. Marier moved to appoint Allen Irwin to the P & Z Board.
Mr. Bohjanen seconded the motion which carried unanimously.
Mayor Benson thanked all the candidates and told Tom Weirnes that the
fact that he is new to the community was not in his favor. He told
Mr. Weirnes that there are other boards within the City government
which need members, particularly the Economic Development Committee,
and solicited his involvement with these Boards.
CONSIDERATION OF APPROVING RESOLUTION NO. 02 -87 AUTHORIZING THE
MAIN STREET IMPROVEMENT PROJECT
Mayor Benson reminded the audience that the following discussion
was to consider authorizing the Main Street Improvement Project
proposed by Anoka County, and was not an assessment hearing.
Mr. Schumacher stated for the record that the City Council received
this evening a petition with 39 signatures (not yet checked for valid-
ity) stating:
"The intent of this petition is to inform you that as
affected homeowners of the property for proposed road
improvements along Main Street, we are not in agreement
to pay the full cost of improvements. Obviously the
entire city will benefit from the improvements, therefore
we are asking the city to assume responsibility for their
portion of the cost."
108
