O36 <br />COUNCIL WORK SESSION SEPTEMBER 28, 1987 <br />Mr. Schumacher will ask representatives of the Fire Department to <br />attend the next budget meeting. <br />Mr. Schumacher briefly summarized the other departmental budget <br />sheets. He said $179,000 in cuts will have to be made from these work <br />sheets to balance the budget. Mr. Reinert said he was concerned about <br />high taxes and felt Lino Lakes was nearly number one in the state <br />again. <br />Public Works Department - Don Volk <br />Mr. Volk explained his number one request is for a new position, <br />foreman. This person's salary would be distributed to the Public <br />Works Department, Park Department, Utilities Department, etc. The <br />Capital Outlay items include: <br />1/2 Ton Pickup for Foreman - Mayor Benson asked if this vehicle <br />could come from the Police Depart- <br />ment? Mr. Volk felt there wasn't <br />a vehicle available to fit the <br />position. <br />Front End Loader - Present loader worn out and not <br />dependable. Could purchase a new <br />one if budget $20,000 a year for <br />three years or a used loader if <br />one is available. <br />Street Repairs <br />- Under rented equipment, Mr. Volk has <br />included a rented conveyor to mix <br />salt sand for sanding streets. He <br />talked to three other cities regard - <br />a joint purchase of a conveyor but <br />was not successful. <br />- Materials for Street Repairs in- <br />cludes $27,000 to proceed on the <br />crack filling project started this <br />summer. He expects to cover the <br />entire City every five years. <br />- Overlay Program - Mr. Volk is look - <br />in at just patch work and noted that <br />Wood Duck Trail needs a complete <br />overlay. He also noted that many <br />catch basins are in need of repair. <br />Speed Limit Signs - He has budgeted for signing 1/2 of <br />PAGE 2 <br />
